Visiting Wyoming

Tourists fill Wyoming in summer, heading for Yellowstone National Park, the Tetons, Jackson and Jackson Hole - and that is just the Northwest corner of the state. Wyoming is also home to Devils Tower, the country's first National Monument. Interstate 80 traverses Wyoming and the wise travelers stop to enjoy sites like Killpecker Sand Dunes just north of Rock Springs or the scenic Mirror Lake Picnic Area south of Elk Mountain. Flaming Gorge in Southwest Wyoming, named by John Wesley Powell, is ideal for water recreation and fishing. Below Flaming Gorge Dam, rafting on the Green River is popular. There is a lot to do and discover throughout Wyoming.

Celebrate the best of Summer at the 2010 Wyoming State BBQ Championship and Bluegrass Festival in Worland. Held at the Washakie County Fairgrounds August 19th through 21st, this is the 6th Annual event. The BBQ Championship is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society and promises to be more delicious than ever. Extra events this year are Lamb and Sauce. Bluegrass headliners include Drivetrain Band, regional favorites Anne & Pete Sibley and Sweet Sunny South, Old Blue Sound and award winning Spring Creek. Great food and music makes a perfect summer getaway.

There are three Best Western Hotels in North central Wyoming convenient for travelers. Best Western The Plaza Hotel in Thermopolis is perfect to stop and soak in the hot springs nearby. The Best Western Sunset Motor Inn in Cody is convenient to the east entrance of Yellowstone Park. The Best Western Crossroads Inn at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains is a day trip from Mount Rushmore and the Best Western Sheridan Center is a lodging option for visitors to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August, just across the state line in South Dakota.

Labor Day Weekend in Evanston brings a couple of fun options for visitors. Evanston Cowboy Days 2010, called the Biggest Little Rodeo in the West, is a city tradition in its 74th year. The three day family fun event, September 4th through the 6th, features a PRCA sanctioned rodeo, parade along with food, arts and craft booths at the fairgrounds. Bring the entire family, kids 3 to 8 years old can join the Mutton Bustin' and everyone loves Munnsie the clown. Evanston's Best Western Dunmar Inn is the perfect place for travelers to the rodeo. With affordable rates, come a day early to explore Bear River State Park or the Historic Railroad Depot Square.

Fort Bridger, east of Evanston, hosts the Fort Bridger Rendezvous also over the Labor Day Weekend. This is a mountain man rendezvous that celebrates the Fur Trade Rendezvous Era in the region in the early 1820's to 1840. This is a family event that creates memories for a lifetime. Near the original Bridger Trading Post that is now a historical site, mountain men, women and families set up primitive camps and hawk wares similar to those of the past. Competitions are held for black powder rifle and pistol shoots and knife and tomahawk throwing. There are not many event as unique, informative and fun as the Fort Bridger Rendezvous.
