Things to do in Sundance

Crook County Museum
Housed in the basement of the courthouse, the collection features a unique collection of local and regional western memorabilia on display. Call 307-283-3666 for more information.

Devil's Tower National Monument
Rising 1,267 feet above the plains, this odd formation was used as a contact point for humans and aliens in the 1977 blockbuster hit Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Enormous columns of rock morph into hexagonal columns-some having four, five or seven sides. In the setting sun, the tower often glows a haunting red hue long after the surrounding countryside no longer reflects the sun's rays. This is truly a geological marvel that should not be missed. Call 307-467-5283 for more information.

Sturgis Bike Rally
Located in South Dakota, this annual motorcycle rally takes place the second week of August.

Vore Buffalo Jump
Between 1500-1800 A.D., Indians drove thousands of bison into a pit on this site. Continuing excavations reveal over 20,000 bison may have been killed here over the centuries. For details, contact the University of Wyoming, 307-766-2208 or 307-766-5136.
